Box Score

Gracie McClatchy (Havertown, Pa./Archbishop Carroll) and Elizabeth Tolley (Brookside, N.J./West Morris Mendham) scored two goals apiece to lead The University of Scranton to a 4-0 victory over visiting Elmira in non-conference field hockey action at Weiss Field on Saturday afternoon.

On a cool and rainy day Scranton, the Royals (3-0) got a pair of first half goals from McClathy before Tolley hit the back of the cage twice in the second half to remain unbeaten on the season.  Scranton enjoyed a dominating performance in the win, outshooting the Soaring Eagles (1-3) by a 35-2 margin on the day.

After scoring the final three goals in the Royals' 4-1 victory over William Paterson on Wednesday night, McClatchy wasted little time in keeping her scoring streak going with an unassisted tally just 5:20 into Saturday's contest to put Scranton ahead, 1-0.

McClatchy doubled the host's advantage in the 26th minute of play, punching home a shot from close range for her fifth goal of the season.

Scranton held the two-goal edge at halftime along with a 15-2 lead in shots on goal before putting the game out of reach behind Tolley's first two goals of the young season.

Tolley extended Scranton's lead to 3-0 in the 49th minute by deflecting in a centering pass from Megan Gallagher (Thorndale, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) before closing out the scoring just 48 seconds later by knocking home a pass to the back post from Brittany Schumann (Andover, N.J./Newton).

Jenna Cyr (Coopersburg, Pa./Southern Lehigh) picked up the win in goal for the Royals, making one save in the first half while Claire McAllister (Plymouth Meeting, Pa./Plymouth-Whitemarsh) finished off the game without being forced to make a save in the final 35 minutes of play as Scranton recorded its first shutout of the season.

For the game, the Royals held a commanding 35-2 advantage in shots and earned 16 penalty corners compared to just one for the Soaring Eagles.

Scranton will visit Misericordia on Tuesday evening for a non-conference matchup starting at 7 p.m.
