BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The University of Scranton women's track & field team competed for the first time since the turn of the New Year on Saturday at the Moravian College Indoor Invitational held at Lehigh University's Rauch Fieldhouse.
The Royals enjoyed 13 top-25 finishes on the day including four top-10 results.
Junior Caroline Banas (Dallas, Pa./Holy Redeemer) led the way with a pair of top-15 finishes highlighted by a runner-up result in the high jump competition. Banas took second in the high jump by clearing the bar at 1.58 meters and also placed 15th in the long jump with a leap of 4.69 meters.
Freshman Meghan McGonigle (Mullica Hill, N.J./Gloucester Catholic) finished sixth in the high jump with a mark of 1.53 meters while Theresa Scarola followed in 11th place in the event.
Scranton had two runners finish in the top-10 of the 3,000 meter run as sophomore Rachel Kerr (Dickson City, Pa./Scranton Prep) after crossing the stripe in 11:17.33, just ahead of classmate and 10th place finisher Abigail Corrigan (Carbondale, Pa./Holy Cross). Freshman Jessica Hoffmann (Millington, N.J./Watchung Hills Regional) also enjoyed a strong showing in the same race, finishing 12th in the field.
In the 60 meter hurdles, junior Chrissy Noonan (Baldwin, N.Y./Baldwin) brought home a 19th place result after clocking in at 10.61 seconds while junior Jasmin Russo (Hamden, Conn./Sacred Heart Academy) finished 20th in the 60 meter dash after finishing in 8.59 seconds.
Freshman AnnMarie Onwuka (Newburgh, N.Y./Newburgh Free Academy) earned a 21st place finish the 400 meter dash by finishing in 1:05.95, junior Hannah Tracy (Ramsey, N.J./Ramsey) took 23rd in the shot put with a toss of 9.89 meters, and freshman Ariana Baldwin (Far Rockaway, N.Y./Kellenberg Memorial) brought home a 25th place finish in the 200 meter dash with a time of 29.18 seconds.
The Royals' 4x400 meter relay team of Baldwin, Onwuka, and fellow freshman Nikki George (Denville, N.J./Morris Knolls), along with junior Margaret Stein (Ontario, N.Y./Wayne Central), combined to post a time of 4:44.47, good for 11th place.
Scranton will next compete at the Susquehanna University Challenge next Saturday starting at 9:30 a.m. in Selinsgrove, Pa.
