BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The University of Scranton field hockey team (8-5, 3-0 Landmark) broke the game open with four goals in the fourth quarter in a 5-0 win over the Moravian Greyhounds (3-10, 0-3 Landmark) on Saturday afternoon at John Makuvek Field in Bethlehem.

The Royals sit atop the Landmark Conference standings at 3-0 with four conference games remaining.

Scranton's five goals are a season-high and the most scored by the Royals since a 5-0 win at Drew on Oct. 10, 2018.

The two sides battled through a scoreless first half despite a handful of quality scoring chances from the Royals. Sophomore Shaelin de Wit (New Tripoli, Pa./Northwestern Lehigh) took a penalty corner for Scranton with 8:55 to play in the second quarter and a shot from senior Caroline Mullen (Chester Springs, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) was denied by Moravian goalie Ashley Kunsman before de Wit's rebound opportunity rolled wide. Kunsman made another save on an attempt from senior Gracie McClatchy (Havertown, Pa./Archbishop Carroll) with 1:38 left in the half. Scranton held a 7-1 shot advantage in the first half.

Head coach Colleen Moyer's squad broke through in the third quarter as sophomore Allie Benadon (Hillsborough, N.J./Hillsborough) sent a crossing pass to the front of the goal and junior Brittany Schumann (Andover, N.J./Newton) tapped it home to give the Royals a 1-0 edge. The goal was Schumann's first of the season. Scranton extended the lead to 2-0 just 1:02 into the fourth quarter as senior Nicolette Keale collected a loose ball and found the back of the net with her fourth goal of the season. Just over two minutes later, junior Annie Amentler (Drums, Pa./Hazelton Area) struck with a shot that deflected off of Kunsman and senior Brianna Witt (Sloatsburg, N.Y./Suffern) followed Amentler with a shot tucked inside the left post to make it a 4-0 game in favor of the Royals. Sophomore Molly Sheehan (Haddonfield, N.J./Haddonfield Memorial) closed the scoring with 4:08 to play as she converted a rebound opportunity for her first goal of the season.

The Royals held a lopsided 20-3 shot advantage led by four shots from Benadon and three from McClatchy.

Senior goalie Claire McAllister (Plymouth Meeting, Pa./Plymouth-Whitemarsh) made three saves for Scranton to register her third shutout of the season, while Kunsman and Brooke Wilkinson had four saves apiece for Moravian.

The Royals return home to host Drew in a Landmark Conference tilt on Wednesday, Oct. 16 at 7 p.m.
