Sophomore Kevin Johnson (Whitehouse Station, N.J./Hunterdon Central) went 4-for-5 with three RBI for The University of Scranton on Wednesday night, but it wasn't enough as Arcadia defeated the Royals 16-11 at Volpe Field.

Scranton (3-7) took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning on Tuesday, but Arcadia (8-4) used a three-run second to swing claim a 3-1, marking the first of five lead changes throughout a game that was also tied three times after the first inning.

The Royals got a run back in the home second before the Knights added one of their own in the top of the third.

Scranton then used a five-run third to claim a 7-4 advantage, but Arcadia countered with five runs of their own in their next at-bats to swing back in front, 9-7.

The Royals leveled the contest at nine-apiece on a two-run home run from senior Ian McIntosh (Newtown, Pa./LaSalle College H.S.) in the fourth inning, but the Knights plated a run in the top of the fifth to claim a 10-9 edge.

A two-run double off the bat of junior Tim Gailor (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield) put Scranton back in front in the home fifth, 11-10, but Arcadia scored six unanswered runs to come back for the victory.

Johnson, who also scored two runs for the Royals, hit a pair of doubles while Gailor and McIntosh both had a pair of hits.  McIntosh also finished with three RBI and two runs scored in the loss.

Arcadia finished the evening with a 20-12 advantage in hits while both teams committed two errors apiece in the contest.

Seven of the Scranton's 12 hits went for extra bases including doubles from Johnson (2), Gailor, junior Kevin Haag (Ossining, N.Y./Ossining/Bridgton Academy (Maine)), sophomore Connor Harding (Vestal, N.Y./Vestal), and freshman Chris Wagner (Westfield, N.J./Westfield), along with McIntosh's home run.

The Royals used eight pitchers in the bullpen game with junior starter Bobby Hegarty (Wantagh, N.Y/Wantagh) tossing a scoreless first inning and senior Bryan Carmon (Flemington, N.J./Hunterdon Central) pitching the final 1.2 scoreless innings as the only two pitchers for the hosts not to be charged with a run against.

Scranton will be right back in action on Thursday with another non-conference home game as Franklin & Marshall comes to Volpe Field.  First pitch between the Royals and Diplomats is set for 5 p.m.
