Men's Soccer Battles Ursinus to 1-1 Draw in Non-Conference Action

Box Score

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The University of Scranton men's soccer team (4-3-4) battled the Ursinus College Bears (6-5-1) to a 1-1 draw in non-conference action on Tuesday night at Patterson Field in Collegeville.

This marked the second straight draw between the two programs following a scoreless tie during the 2019 season.

In the early stages of the contest, freshman Adam Havens (Freehold, N.J./Freehold Township) put the Royals on the board in the eighth minute as he dribbled into the box and beat Ursinus keeper Tyler Lewin with a shot to the far post. Later in the half, Scranton nearly extended the lead in the 40th minute when Lewin turned away a shot by senior Bryce Schiltz (East Aurora, N.Y./East Aurora) as the visitors held a 4-2 shot advantage in the opening 45 minutes.

The goal for Havens was his second of the season after he also scored in Saturday's 2-1 win at Goucher.

The Bears nearly tied the game with consecutive opportunities in the 58th minute, but senior goalie Jake Hodlofski (West Chester, Pa./Malvern Prep) made a save on Aiden Cooper and an attempt from Aidan O'Malley sailed just high of the net. However, Ursinus was able to break through in the 69th minute as Luke Luehrs took a feed from Jack Schmidt and found the back of the net to even things at one.

Each team registered a couple of quality chances in the two overtime periods as Cooper's header went just over the crossbar in the first overtime, while senior Andrew Luchansky (Allentown, Pa./Parkland) nearly won the game for the Royals in the 102nd minute but his attempt was denied by Lewin. Hodlofski made his final save of the night in the 108th minute when he turned away a shot from O'Malley.

The Bears held a 17-5 shot advantage in the contest and both Hodlofski and Lewin recorded two saves apiece for their respective teams.

Following a stretch of five straight matches on the road, the Royals return home to host rival Catholic in a key Landmark Conference matchup on Saturday afternoon at Weiss Field. Action is slated to get underway at 4 p.m.
