Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

SCRANTON, Pa. – The University of Scranton volleyball team (23-5) closed out the home portion of its regular season schedule with a pair of three set victories over Wilkes (10-16) and New Jersey City (13-9) on Saturday at the John Long Center in Scranton.

Prior to the final match of the day, the Royals honored their senior class of Eryn Boken (South Pasadena, Calif./Westridge School for Girls), Molly Dunfee (King of Prussia, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) and Trinity Manning (Point Lookout, N.Y./Kellenberg Memorial) who have helped lead the program to 57 victories and two Landmark Conference playoff appearances in their career.

Scranton 3, Wilkes 0 (25-12, 25-16, 25-16)

The Royals started the day with a dominant victory over Wilkes as they took each of the three sets by at least nine points.

Head coach Jamie Spangler's squad took 10 of the first 11 points of the match and cruised from there to the 25-12 win in set one. In the second set, things were deadlocked at 12 apiece before sophomore Grace Kane (Cranford, N.J./Union Catholic) slammed home a kill to ignite a 13-4 run over the remainder of the set and freshman Maddie Orth (Nazareth, Pa./Nazareth) finished the run with a kill of her own. The Royals once again proved to be dominant in the third set by taking the first seven points and 11 of the first 14 en route to the clean sweep of the Colonels.

Scranton featured an extremely balanced attack in the win as seven different players recorded three or more kills led by a match-high seven from Boken and five from Manning. Freshman Gianna Detorie (Rumford, R.I./Bishop Feehan) put together an all-around effort in the win with 11 assists and eight digs, while Orth tallied three kills and three digs. Junior Caileigh Cox (Randolph, N.J./Randolph) also notched double-figures in assists with 10.

Scranton 3, New Jersey City 0 (25-16, 25-20, 25-7)

In their final match of the day, the Royals also notched the sweep of the New Jersey City Gothic Knights including a 25-7 victory in the third and final set of the match.

The Royals once again came out hot in this one by taking eight of the first 10 points and following a New Jersey city rally, the hosts took 12 of the final 17 points for the 25-16 win in set one. The second set was a very back and forth affair and things were deadlocked at 17 apiece before Scranton ripped off four straight points capped by a kill from Orth en route to the 25-20 victory. In the third and final set, the Royals grabbed control from the outset and rolled to a 25-7 win to complete the sweep of the Gothic Knights.

Boken delivered a match-high 14 kills, while Manning and sophomore Stephanie Margolies (Westfield, N.J./Westfield) added seven apiece. Cox tallied 24 assists in the win to go along with eight digs and four kills from Orth. Defensively, Dunfee led the way with 11 digs in her final regular season home match.

Scranton returns to the court on Wednesday night for a Landmark Conference match at Moravian with first serve set for 7 p.m.
