Box Score ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. – The University of Scranton men's soccer team (4-6-5, 1-3-3 Landmark) closed the regular season with a 1-0 loss to the Elizabethtown Blue Jays (9-5-2, 4-2-1 Landmark) on Saturday afternoon at Ira R. Herr Field in Elizabethtown.
Scranton had a chance in the early going, but a shot by senior Andrew Luchansky (Allentown, Pa./Parkland) in the eighth minute was turned away by ETown keeper Nick Pilny. In the 17th minute, senior goalie Jake Hodlofski (West Chester, Pa./Malvern Prep) denied the Blue Jays' Thomas Knox with a save to keep the game scoreless for the time being. Hodlofski made two more saves in the final 25 plus minutes of the half and the game remained scoreless heading into halftime. The Royals held a slight 4-3 shot advantage in the opening 45 minutes.
Knox put ETown on the board in the 49th minute as he took feeds from Pedro Guizardi and Mehluko Letsoalo to beat Hodlofski and make it a 1-0 game in favor of the hosts. Hodlofski was able to keep it a one-goal game with two key saves in the final 15 plus minutes of regulation, but the Royals were unable to solve Pilny in the setback.
The two teams were even in shots at seven apiece as freshman Sean Quin (Stony Point, N.Y./Albertus Magnus) led Scranton with three attempts in the contest. Hodlofski made five saves in net for the Royals, while Pilny tallied a pair of saves for Elizabethtown.
The game was a physical affair throughout that featured five cards and 27 fouls.
Scranton's 2021 roster featured six seniors in Hodlofski, Luchansky, Luke Backman (Oakland, N.J./Indian Hills), Jake Nubbemeyer (Warminster, Pa./Archbishop Wood), Terrence Quin (Stony Point, N.Y./Don Bosco Prep) and Bryce Schiltz (East Aurora, N.Y./East Aurora).
