Men's Soccer Drops Hard-Fought Battle to No. 16 Franklin & Marshall

Box Score

LANCASTER, Pa. – The University of Scranton men's soccer team (3-3-3) fought hard for all 90 minutes, but fell just short in a 1-0 loss to the No. 16 Franklin & Marshall Diplomats (9-1) on Wednesday night at Tylus Field in Lancaster.

This marked the eighth all-time meeting between the two programs and the second straight season in which they have met.

The game was scoreless until the 81st minute when the Diplomats' Dallen Moore collected a loose ball just outside the top of the box and ripped a shot to the top right corner past a diving Jake Hodlofski (West Chester, Pa./Malvern Prep) to give the hosts a 1-0 lead.

Scranton had the first quality chance of the game for either side in the 15th minute when a header from senior Jake Nubbemeyer (Warminster, Pa./Archbishop Wood) was turned away by Franklin & Marshall's Sam Altman Farrell. In the final 30 minutes of the opening stanza, each team saw a couple chances go just wide of the target to keep the game scoreless after the first 45 minutes.

The second half was much of the same and an attempt from junior Christian Arcos (Bayonne, N.J./Saint Peter's Prep) went high of the net in the 52nd minute as the game remained scoreless for the time being. Hodlofski made a couple of key saves during a sequence with just under 20 minutes to play as he turned away shots from the Diplomats' Koa Kaliebe and Shay Adamson. The Royals keeper denied Adamson once again in the 79th minute before Moore found the back of the net a couple minutes later with the eventual game-winner.

Franklin & Marshall held a 14-3 shot advantage in the match and Hodlofski tallied three saves in net for Scranton, while Altman Farrell recorded one save for the hosts.

The Royals head to Goucher on Saturday afternoon for a Landmark Conference matchup beginning at 4 p.m.
