SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Senior Jessica Hoffmann (Millington, N.J./Watchung Hills) and junior Noelle Gonzalez (Harrington Park, N.J./Northern Valley-Old Tappan) both registered individual wins on the day as The University of Scranton women's track and field team made their season debut at the SU Early Season Invite that was hosted by Susquehanna University on Saturday.
This marked the first indoor meet for the Royals since the AARTFC Regional Championships on Mar. 6-7, 2020.
Here are some of the Royals' highlights from Saturday's season-opening meet.
- Hoffmann cruised home in the 3,000 meters with a time of 10:31.96, which surpasses the 2021-22 AARTFC regional qualifying mark of 10:40.00.
- Gonzalez took home the 200 meter dash with a time of 27.82 seconds.
- Elsewhere for Scranton, junior Fiona Burke (Exton, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) finished third in the 100 meter dash in 8.42 seconds, which is the second fastest time in program history, while sophomore Chelsea Long (Walkersville, Md./Walkersville) placed third in the 800 meters in 2:36.57.
- Sophomore Olivia Tullman (Chester Springs, Pa./The Hill School) added a third place finish in the mile with a time of 5:45.61 and senior Meghan McGonigle (Mullica Hill, N.J./Gloucester Catholic) took third in the high jump with a mark of 1.52m.
- In the 4x400 meter relay, freshman Andreina Solano (Monroe, N.Y./Monroe-Woodbury), Gonzalez, junior Abigail Sheehan (Wyckoff, N.J./Academy of the Holy Angels) and junior Katherine Welby (Scranton, Pa./Scranton Prep) finished third in a time of 4:36.00.
The University of Scranton women's track and field team will be off until the New Year and return to the track on Saturday, Jan. 22 for the Moravian University Indoor Meet beginning at 10 a.m.
