For the fifth time in her career and the second time in three weeks, University of Scranton softball senior Jennifer Sweeney (Wind Gap, Pa./Dumont) was named the Landmark Conference Athlete of the Week on Monday afternoon.
Sweeney, a pitcher and infielder for the Royals, once again led Scranton to a pair of dominating Landmark victories on Saturday, as the Royals run-ruled Drew in a doubleheader sweep by scores of 8-0 (in six innings) and 10-1 (in five innings) to remain unbeaten on the year at 6-0 overall and in the Landmark Conference.
In the games, Sweeney batted .600 at the plate, going 3-for-5 with a home run, a run scored, and five RBI's. In the game one win, Sweeney cracked a two-run home run early, the 12th round-tripper of her career at Scranton, while in game two, she had three RBI's in a nine-run win for the Royals. Overall, Sweeney is batting .700 for the season with two home runs, three doubles, 12 RBI's, and 14 runs scored.
Meanwhile, Sweeney pushed her record n the pitching circle to 4-0 with a complete game, four-hit shutout in game one. Striking out five in the victory, Sweeney has posted a 2.67 ERA and tossed three complete games on the season, so far.
Sweeney and the rest of The University of Scranton softball team are back in action later this afternoon, taking on Drew in a doubleheader on the road. First pitch for game one is set for 3 p.m.
