Men's Soccer Battles Kean to Scoreless Draw in Non-Conference Action

Box Score

UNION, N.J. – The University of Scranton men's soccer team (1-1-1) battled the Kean University Cougars (2-0-1) to a scoreless draw on Saturday night at Alumni Stadium in Union, N.J.

This marked the first meeting between the programs since the 2000 season and the 10th meeting all-time.

The two teams battled through a scoreless 45 minutes and the Royals had a chance in the late stages of the opening stanza, but a shot from senior Jake Nubbemeyer (Warminster, Pa./Archbishop Wood) was turned away by the Cougars' Dominic Ridge in the 40th minute. Kean held a 4-1 shot advantage in the opening half.

Both teams had their chances in the second half, but neither team was able to find the back of the net. Scranton registered eight shots in the second half with Ridge making six saves and his counterpart, Royals' senior goalie Jake Hodlofski (West Chester, Pa./Malvern Prep) made two saves of his own in the half. Around the 70th minute of the contest, a pair of shots from seniors Andrew Luchansky (Allentown, Pa./Parkland) and Bryce Schiltz (East Aurora, N.Y./East Aurora) were both saved by Ridge to keep the game scoreless.

Hodlofski recorded two more saves in the two overtime periods and denied an opportunity from Kean's Erick Chicas in the final minute of the first overtime period.

On the night, Kean held a slight 11-10 shot advantage and the Royals were led by two shots apiece from sophomore Nick Addamo (Holbrook, N.Y./Sachem East) and freshman Zach Simcsak (Langhorne, Pa./Holy Ghost Prep). Hodlofski made four saves in net to register his second consecutive shutout and the seventh of his Scranton career, while Ridge tallied eight saves for the Cougars in 110 minutes of action.

The game was a physical affair that included 17 fouls and six yellow cards.

The University of Scranton men's soccer team returns home to host local rival Misericordia on Wednesday afternoon at Weiss Field. Start time is slated for 4 p.m.
