Box Score SCRANTON, Pa. – The University of Scranton men's soccer team (2-1-1) scored twice in the first eight plus minutes of the contest and the Royals rolled to a 3-0 win over the Marywood Pacers (0-4) on Saturday afternoon at Pacer Field in Scranton.
Scranton is now unbeaten in their last three matches following a season-opening loss against Muhlenberg and have not allowed a goal during that stretch.
The Royals got the scoring started in the fifth minute as senior Jake Nubbemeyer (Warminster, Pa./Archbishop Wood) found the back of the net off a corner kick from classmate Andrew Luchansky (Allentown, Pa./Parkland) to take a 1-0 lead. Just a few minutes later, junior Brett Rudy's (Wellsboro, Pa./Wellsboro Area) initial shot was saved by Pacers goalie Niko Leibkuchler, but sophomore Nick Addamo (Holbrook, N.Y./Sachem East) was able to beat the keeper off a feed from Rudy to make it a 2-0 game less than 10 minutes into the game. Scranton held a 6-3 shot advantage in the opening 45 minutes.
In the second half, Matt Pivirotto's squad had some chances in the early stages of the second half, and the duo of Addamo and Rudy struck again in the 57th minute as Addamo served a ball over the top to Rudy who was able to beat Leibkuchler one on one for his first goal of the season and a 3-0 lead.
The tallies were also the first of their Scranton career for Addamo, Nubbemeyer and Rudy.
Scranton held a 9-4 shot advantage in the game led by three shots from Rudy. Senior goalie Jake Hodlofski (West Chester, Pa./Malvern Prep) played the first 75 minutes and sophomore Ryan Lally (Vernon, N.J./Vernon Township) played the 14 plus minutes as the pair combined on the shutout for the Royals.
The game was also a physical affair that featured a combined 25 fouls and four yellow cards.
The Royals return home for a pair of contests this week as they will host Arcadia in a non-conference matchup on Wednesday night before opening Landmark Conference play versus Susquehanna on Saturday. Start time on Wednesday is slated for 7 p.m., while action on Saturday starts at 4 p.m.
