Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

HOBOKEN, N.J. – Senior Caileigh Cox (Randolph, N.J./Randolph) was named Tournament MVP and The University of Scranton volleyball team (10-2) picked up a pair of victories over Clarkson and Stevens at the Castle Point Challenge hosted by Stevens over the weekend.

Cox was named MVP, while fellow senior Carah Vitkus (Mahopac, N.Y./Mahopac) was also named to the All-Tournament team.

Both victories on the day for the Royals were four set victories.

Scranton 3, Clarkson 1 (13-25, 25-21, 25-19, 25-16)

To kick off the day, the Royals bounced back from a loss in the first set to take a four set victory over the Golden Knights (7-3).

Following a first set victory by Clarkson, Scranton would bounce back to take the next three sets en route to the win.

In the second set with the Royals holding a slight 9-8 advantage, a kill from sophomore Stephanie Margolies (Westfield, N.J./Westfield) sparked a run where the Royals took eight of the next 11 points to take a 17-11 lead for the time being. Clarkson rallied to cut the lead to 18-17 before Scranton took control late to even the match at one set apiece. The third set was even at 16 apiece, but freshman Maddie Orth (Nazareth, Pa./Nazareth) hammered home a kill to give the Royals the lead for good as they took nine of the final 12 points for the 25-19 victory. Head coach Jamie Spangler's squad rolled through the first set, leading by as many as nine points to seal the match.

Vitkus led the way for the Royals with 13 kills on the day, while Margolies added 12 of her own. Margolies also had 13 digs in the win. Cox set up the attack all afternoon with 35 assists, while also posting impressive numbers defensively with five block-assists and a team-high 18 digs.

Scranton 3, Stevens 1 (18-25, 25-23, 26-24, 25-21)

Just like their first match of the day, the Royals dropped the first set to Stevens (9-2) before taking the next three sets en route to the victory.

Stevens led 23-21 late in the second set before Scranton ripped off four straight points including a kill apiece from Cox and Margolies to even the match at one set apiece. The third set featured another Scranton rally as the Ducks opened up a 24-18 advantage, but the visitors ripped off the final eight points to take the 26-24 win. Freshman Erin Keaveney (Collegeville, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) had a pair of kills during the run for the Royals. It was more of the same in the fourth and final set of the night as Stevens led 20-18 before six straight points from Scranton led to a 24-20 lead and eventual 25-21 win.

Keaveney had 10 kills to lead the attack for Scranton, while Margolies tallied nine kills of her own. Cox had 37 assists in the contest and senior Molly Dunfee (King of Prussia, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) led the defense with 16 digs in the win.

The Royals hit the road to battle Neumann on Wednesday night with first serve slated for 7 p.m.
