Box Score ALLENTOWN, Pa. – Senior Molly Sheehan (Haddonfield, N.J./Haddonfield Memorial) scored her first goal of the season late in the first half and The University of Scranton field hockey team (5-0) remained unbeaten with a 1-0 win over the Muhlenberg Mules (2-3) on Sunday afternoon at Scotty Wood Stadium in Allentown.
The Royals once again posted an impressive performance defensively as they registered the team's fourth shutout of the season and have allowed just one goal in their first five games.
Scranton is off to a 5-0 start for the third time in four seasons and has also won three of the last four meetings against Muhlenberg dating back to the 2017 campaign.
Following a penalty corner by senior Shaelin de Wit (New Tripoli, Pa./Northwestern Lehigh) in the late stages of the first half, Sheehan took a feed in front from freshman Reagan Dolan (Broomall, Pa./Bonner & Prendergast) and found the back of the cage to give the Royals a 1-0 lead with just 0:23 remaining in the second quarter.
Sheehan nearly extended the lead in the third quarter before her shot was turned away by Mules' goalie Mel Cartagena. The Royals also had a pair of chances late in the quarter, but were unable to find the back of the cage. However, Scranton's defense held strong and freshman goalie Gianna Travia (Havertown, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) made a key save on Sarah Raab early in the fourth quarter to preserve the shutout for the Royals. Raab added a shot attempt off of a penalty corner with under four minutes left in regulation, but the shot was blocked in front.
Travia made one save to notch the shutout in her first career start and has not allowed a goal in 118 minutes of action this season.
The Royals held a 7-2 shot advantage in the contest led by two attempts apiece from Redding, Sheehan and senior Allie Benadon (Hillsborough, N.J./Hillsborough) while they also held a 7-4 edge in penalty corners.
Cartagena made one save in the losing effort for the Mules.
