TOWSON, Md. - Junior forward Ryan Ems (Voorhees, N.J./Eastern Regional) led all scorers with 21 points and did not miss a shot from the floor (8-of-8), as The University of Scranton men's basketball team rolled to a 79-64 victory at Goucher on Saturday in Landmark Conference action.
With the win, the Royals moved to 8-5 overall, 2-1 in the Landmark Conference, and captured their fourth straight game overall. Goucher dropped to 3-10 and 0-3 in the Landmark with the defeat.
To start on Saturday, Goucher was able to jump out to an early lead, holding a 16-11 edge over the Royals with 12:38 to go in the first half. But, the lead did not last long for Goucher, as a quick 10-4 run for Scranton gave the Royals the lead back at 21-20 with under 10 minutes to go in the period.
The game remained close over the next six minutes but came to a head with four minutes to go in the opening frame with Scranton clinging to a 28-27 lead. Here, the Royals went on a run to jump out to their first double-digit lead of the game, as a 10-0 spurt extended the Scranton edge out to 11 points (38-27) with 34 seconds left in the first half.
Goucher was able to stop the spurt with a basket, but Scranton tallied the final bucket of the first half to go into the locker room for intermission up by double-figures at 39-29.
The second half saw Scranton keep Goucher at arm's length for the entire period, as the Royals eventually increased their lead to 13 points (51-38) five and a half minutes into the second half.
Eventually, the Royals went up by an insurmountable 19 points (70-51) with six minutes left in regulation and never looked back on their way to collecting their first road victory of the season.
Overall, Ems was impressive in the victory, recording his eighth double-digit scoring game of the year and his second 20+ point scoring effort of the season. Ems, who also went 5-fo-7 from the free throw line in the victory, pulled down nine rebounds, as well.
Elsewhere, freshman Will McLoughlin (Glen Rock, N.J./Glen Rock) once again came off the bench and scored in double-figures, tallying 12 points. McLoughlin, who made six free throws, also pulled down nine rebounds in the victory, a season-high.
SeniorJack Brockett (Shamong, N.J./Seneca) and juniorStephen Braunstein (Colts Neck, N.J./Christian Brothers Academy) had 10 points apiece, while senior Jackson Danzig (Clarks Green, Pa./Abington Heights) added eight points and now sits nine points away from 1,000 career points (991).
Goucher was led in the loss by Tevin Wilson, who had 13 points.
The University of Scranton men's basketball team returns to action on Monday afternoon, as they are slated to take on Juniata (weather permitting) inside the John Long Center at 4 p.m.
