Healy's First Half Brace Leads Women's Soccer Past Goucher, 4-0

Box Score

SCRANTON, Pa. – The University of Scranton women's soccer (7-2-1, 2-0 Landmark) scored two goals in the first six minutes of the game and rolled to a 4-0 victory over the Goucher College Gophers (6-3, 0-2 Landmark) in Landmark Conference action on Saturday afternoon at Weiss Field in Scranton.

Junior Niamh Healy (Orangeburg, N.Y./Tappan Zee) opened the scoring for the Royals in the fourth minute as she took a feed from classmate Claire Mulholland (Marlton, N.J./Cherokee) and found the back of the net to give the hosts the early 1-0 lead. Less than two minutes later, senior Teresa Hegarty (Bryn Mawr, Pa./Merion Mercy Academy) sent a ball into the box and towards the far post where sophomore Emily Bannon (Middletown, N.Y./Minisink Valley) tapped it home to extend the lead to 2-0. In the 17th minute, Healy nearly extended the lead and the Orangeburg, N.Y., native found her second goal of the game in the 23rd minute when she headed home a cross into the box from senior Claire Sites (Collegeville, Pa./Spring-Ford Area) for a 3-0 advantage.

The Royals held an 8-3 shot advantage over the opening 45 minutes and led 3-0 at the half.

The multi-goal game was Healy's second in as many weeks after she previously recorded a brace in a 2-0 win at Catholic last Saturday. On the season, Healy is tied for the team lead with four goals along with classmate Mary Haggerty (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City).

Haggerty buried the Royals' fourth and final goal of the game in the 48th minute as she ripped a shot from outside the box and into the top left corner of the net to make it a 4-0 game. Scranton was able to hold Goucher without a shot in the second half and rolled to the team's seventh shutout of the season.

Head coach Colleen Pivirotto's team held a 13-3 shot advantage on the day led by five from Healy and a pair of goalies combined on the shutout for the hosts as sophomore Nicole Olson (Stoughton, Mass./Ursuline Academy) made a pair of saves in 64 plus minutes of action and junior Dana Ogilvie (Piscataway, N.J./Piscataway) played the final 23 plus minutes.

Marissa Spacht tallied two saves in the setback for Goucher.

The Royals hit the road to face Farmingdale State in non-conference action on Wednesday afternoon at 5 p.m.
