Box Score

SELINSGROVE, PA (October 22, 2022) -- Sophomore Sean Quin (Stony Point, N.Y. / Albertus Magnus) scored the eventual game-winner in the 58th minute as The University of Scranton men's soccer team earned a 2-1 Landmark Conference win over Susquehanna on Saturday afternoon.

With the win the Royals advance to 8-6-2 on the season and 2-3-1 in conference play.

Scranton took to the attack early in the game, firing off a pair of shots in the opening ten minutes and forcing two saves out of Susquehannas' goalkeeper Hunter McDonald.

Following a slow stretch from both sides freshman Gavin Scavino (Succasunna, N.J. / Gill St. Bernard's) entered the game and had an immediate impact as he gave the Royals a 1-0 lead in the 29th minute off an assist from senior Kieran Francis (Ramsey, N.J. / Ramsey).

Scranton remained ahead 1-0 headed into halftime.

In the 57th minute junior Anthony Rizzi (Bloomfield, N.J. / Bloomfield) ripped a shot at goal that forced McDonald to push the ball wide of the frame and over the end line for a cornerkick. The Royals would take advantage of the set piece as Quin found the back of the net to give Scranton a 2-0 lead with just over thirty minute remaining in regulation.

Susquehanna found a late goal in the final three minutes of action but it was too late as Scranton went on to win 2-1 in the conference matchup. The Royals held a 10-8 shot advantage in the contest.

Senior goalkeeper Aidan Hartey (Elkins Park, Pa. / St. Joseph's Prep) made two saves in 64 minutes of action before being relieved by freshman Charlie Smith (Devon, Pa. / Conestoga) who finished out the final 26 minutes and made one save.

The men's soccer team returns to action for its final regular season game of the season next Saturday when they host Juniata at Weiss Field at 1:00 PM.
