Seventh Inning Rally Comes Up Just Short as Softball Falls to Babson, 4-3

Box Score

CLERMONT, Fla. – The University of Scranton softball team (3-2) put together a seventh inning rally, but fell just short in a 4-3 loss to the Babson Beavers (5-2) in the Royals' first game of their Spring Break trip on Saturday afternoon at The Spring Games in Clermont.

Trailing 4-3 in the seventh, Scranton had runners with first and second and two outs in the frame, but a sharp lineout to shortstop ended the contest. The Royals had plated three runs earlier in the inning on an RBI single from junior Jenna Davida (Congers, N.Y./Clarkstown North) and a two-out, two-run single by senior Jessica Indelicato (Bethlehem, Pa./Bethlehem Catholic).

The Royals had been originally scheduled to play Rutgers-Camden and TCNJ on Saturday, but due to some schedule changes, they wound up taking on the Beavers.

Babson was able to get on the board with two runs in the fourth as a wild pitch and an error in the frame led to the pair. In the home half of the sixth, a single, walk and hit by pitch loaded the bases before an error and a bases loaded walk plated two more runs for a 4-0 advantage at the time.

The afore-mentioned seventh inning rally for the Royals got started with a double from senior Heather Alich (Bath, Pa./Northampton Area) and a single from graduate student Jennifer Sweeney (Wind Gap, Pa./Dumont).

Sweeney was dealt the loss in the circle for Scranton as she allowed the four runs (two earned) on six hits and fanned two in six innings of work. For Babson, Moira O'Reilly gave up three runs on five hits and struck out 10 in seven innings.

Five different players tallied a hit apiece on the afternoon for head coach Caitlyn Seamster's squad.

The Royals are back in action tomorrow with matchups at The Spring Games against Carthage (2:45 p.m.) and Arcadia (5:15 p.m.).
