Women's Soccer Falls to Vassar, 1-0

Box Score

SCRANTON, PA (September 10, 2022) -- The University of Scranton women's soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision to Vassar College on Saturday night at Weiss Field.

With the loss the Royals move to 3-1 on the season.

Vassar saw the first real opportunity of the game in the 16th minute as Violet Munnelly had her shot saved by sophomore goalkeeper Nicole Olson (Stoughton, Mass. / Ursuline Academy). Just a few minutes later junior Niamh Healy (Orangeburg, N.Y. / Tappan Zee) recorded the first shot of the game for Scranton that was deflected over the end line for a corner. However, the Royals were unable to take advantage of the set piece.

Neither side was able to break through the remainder of the first half in the defensive battle.

Vassar managed to break the deadlock in the 66th minute as Riley McGrath hit a shot from outside the box into the top shelf to give her squad a 1-0 lead. Healy created another shot with just three minutes remaining in the game but missed high on her effort.

The Brewers would hold on to win 1-0 over the Royals. Olson made a season-high six saves in net for Scranton.

The Royals will look to rebound on Wednesday when they travel to Lebanon Valley College for a 4:00 PM kickoff.
