Healy Nets Brace to Lead Women's Soccer Past Catholic, 2-0

Box Score

WASHINGTON, DC (September 24, 2022) -- Junior Niamh Healy (Orangeburg, N.Y. / Tappan Zee) scored a pair of goals to lead The University of Scranton women's soccer team to a 2-0 win at Catholic in its conference opener on Saturday afternoon at Carlini Field.

With the win the Royals improve their win streak to three and move to 6-1-1 on the season.

Scranton got on the board in the 6th minute as Healy recieved a through ball in behind the Cardinal back line from sophomore Emily Bannon (Middletown, N.Y. / Minisink Valley) and tucked her shot past Catholic goalie Ava Rieger to give the Royals an early 1-0 lead.

The Royals continued to apply pressure as they outshot the Cardinals 8-2 in the opening half.

Senior Teresa Hegarty (Bryn Mawr, Pa. / Merion Mercy Academy) opened up the second half with a pair of shots but saw her efforts saved by Rieger. Healy recorded her second goal of the day in the 62nd minute off a feed from Hegarty in behind the Cardinal back line. Healy's speed proved too much for Catholic as she beat out the defenders and put her shot past Reiger to make it 2-0 in favor of Scranton.

The Royals were dominant on the offensive end and outshot Catholic 16-4. Sophomore goalkeeper Nikki Olson (Stoughton, Mass. / Ursuline Academy) earned her sixth win of the season for Scranton and posted three saves.

The women's soccer team returns to action on Wednesday when they host No. 2 Misericordia at Weiss Field at 4:30 PM.
