SCRANTON, Pa. – The trio of seniors Marina Nunziato (Cranford, N.J./Cranford) and Kayleigh Olszewski (Conshohocken, Pa./Academy of Notre Dame de Namur) and junior Aviah Dahlgren (Honesdale, Pa./Wyoming Seminary) all won two events apiece as The University of Scranton women's swimming and diving team cruised past the Marywood Pacers with a 244-29 victory in dual meet action on Saturday at Marywood.
With the win, the Royals improve to 3-0 in dual meets on the young season.
Nunziato won both the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:16.27 and the 500 free in a time of 5:44.93, just eclipsing freshman teammate Meredith Sulman (State College, Pa./State College Area) who finished second in the latter in 5:45.03. Nunziato also added a second place finish in the 200 IM with a time of 2:24.76.
Olszewski touched the wall in 2:20.83 to capture the 200 fly and the 200 IM in 2:24.52, while also adding a silver medal finish in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:43.97.
For Dahlgren, the sophomore cruised to first place in the 1,000 freestyle with a time of 11:39.44 and the 200 back with a time of 2:15.40.
Other winners on the day for the Royals included senior Jaclyn Papalski (Flemington, N.J./Hunterdon Central) in the 200 free with a time of 2:03.72 and classmate Alyssa Benzija (Kinnelon, N.J./Kinnelon) in the 100 back with a time of 1:03.85. Sulman added a victory of her own in the 50 free in 26.96 seconds and freshman Kim Gingrass (Baldwin, N.Y./Sacred Heart Academy) captured the 100 free in 56.85 seconds, while junior Alanna Kelly (Yonkers, N.Y./School of the Holy Child) won the 200 back in 2:35.23.
Senior Michelle Kong (Edison, N.J./John P. Stevens) added a first place finish in the 100 fly with a time of 1:02.80 and Scranton also recorded victories in the 200 medley and 200 free relays.
On the diving boards, sophomore Nicole Stofko (Allentown, Pa./Parkland) won the one meter event with 200.20 points and freshman Chloe Furlong (West Creek, N.J./Southern Regional) recorded a score of 125.15 points for first place in the three meter dives.
Scranton will host Catholic in a dual meet next Saturday, Oct. 28 at 1 p.m. at the Byron Recreation Complex.
