SCRANTON, Pa. – Graduate student Jacob Burgette (Scranton, Pa./Scranton) was named Most Outstanding Wrestler and The University of Scranton wrestling team tallied three victories at the 2023 Electric City Duals that were held on Sunday at the John Long Center.

The Royals finished second in the team standings with victories over Elmira (47-12), Keystone (36-18) and New Jersey City (31-16).

Burgette went 4-0 in his Scranton debut including three pinfall victories and the Scranton native started his day with a pin of SUNY Oneonta's Aydin DeForest in 3:20.

In the victory over Elmira, the Royals snagged an early 18-0 advantage with a trio of forfeit victories before sophomore Kosta Mavrikidis (Warren, N.J./Paramus Catholic), freshman Quinton Laughlin (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) and senior Jeremiah Oakes (Scranton, Pa./Scranton) all earned pinfall wins in their respective weight classes. Burgette also added a 15-0 technical fall win to help seal the victory.

Burgette and Mavrikidis both registered pinfall victories in the 36-18 win over Keystone as the former took down Mariano Monacelli in just 0:39. At 133 pounds, junior Matthew DiGennaro (River Edge, N.J./River Dell Regional) took down the Giants' Malachi Jones in 0:36 seconds, while senior Daniel Kosinski (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Trinity) and sophomore Shkeb Nadir (Scranton, Pa./Scranton) added decision victories.

Despite an early 16-3 deficit in the New Jersey City match, Scranton quickly battled back with consecutive pins from Burgette and Oakes in less than a minute to cut the deficit to one at 16-15. Laughlin then gave the hosts the lead for good with an 11-1 major decision over Pierre Francois at 184 pounds.
