SCRANTON, Pa. – Senior Scott Majka (Marysville, Pa./Trinity) and sophomore Jimmy O'Malley (Maple Glen, Pa./LaSalle College) each won two events apiece as The University of Scranton men's swimming and diving team rolled to a 174-88 victory over the Dickinson Red Devils on Saturday afternoon at the Byron Recreation Complex in Scranton.
With the victory, the Royals improve to 5-0 in dual meets on the season.
Majka captured the 100 free in a time of 49.23 seconds, just touching the wall ahead of Dickinson's Daulton Kendall who took second in 49.25. The Marysville, Pa., native also added a first place finish in the 100 fly with a time of 54.94 seconds.
O'Malley took first place in the 500 free with a time of 4:54.08 and notched a victory in the 1,000 freestyle in 10:14.66.
Other first place finishers for the Royals included freshman Sam Peters (West Hartford, Conn./Northwest Catholic) who won the 200 free in 1:48.77 and sophomore Mike Finley (New Milford, N.J./Don Bosco Prep) in the 100 back with a time of 54.14 seconds. Fellow sophomore Jack Monaco (Oradell, N.J./River Dell) captured the 200 fly in 2:04.79, while classmate Matt Sherry (Glenside, Pa./LaSalle College) won the 50 free in 22.68 seconds and freshman Conor Doogan (Shrewsbury, N.J./Christian Brothers Academy) took first in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:20.91.
Freshman Tommy Nappi (West Caldwell, N.J./James Caldwell) registered a win for the Royals in the 200 IM with a time of 2:06.60.
In the 400 medley relay, the quartet of Finley, Nappi, Sherry and Majka took first place in 3:38.42 and added a first place finish in the 200 free relay behind Majka, junior Ryan Valle (Norristown, Pa./Methacton), Sherry and Finley in 1:29.90. The Royals' 200 free relay team just surpassed Dickinson's "A" team by .06 seconds.
Scranton will host Misericordia in a dual meet on Friday evening at the Byron Recreation Complex with start time slated for 6:30 p.m.
