Box Score ITHACA, N.Y. – Ithaca scored seven runs over the first three innings and The University of Scranton baseball team (8-6) dropped an 11-1 decision to the Bombers (8-6) in a non-conference matchup on Wednesday afternoon at Freeman Field.
The Bombers used a two-out triple followed by a throwing error to get on the board in the first inning and added two more runs in the second with an RBI double and a sac fly.
Junior right-hander Thomas Plunkett (Mamaroneck, N.Y./Mamaroneck) got the start for the Royals, but was dealt his first loss of the season as he allowed three runs (two earned) on four hits to go along with two strikeouts in 1 2/3 IP.
Jack Colyer earned the win for Ithaca as he gave up one run on two hits while fanning five in five innings of work.
Ithaca added four more runs in the home half of the third to open up a 7-0 lead as Ethan Rothstein delivered the big blow in the inning with a three-run shot.
Junior Jack Heineman (Abington, Pa./LaSalle College) got the Royals on the board in the fifth inning with a solo blast off of Colyer for his first home run of the season.
In the bottom of the sixth, Ithaca added their eighth run of the day and then closed the scoring with three in the seventh.
Sophomore Jake Elston (New Milford, Conn./Canterbury School) tallied a pair of hits on the day for the Royals, while junior lefty Mike Fox (Westfield, N.J./Union Catholic) and freshman right-hander Aidan Rumain (Martinsville, N.J./Immaculata) recorded scoreless outings in relief. Both Fox and Rumain struck out a pair in their respective outings.
The Royals will return home to host Drew in a Landmark Conference battle on Friday afternoon at Volpe Field with first pitch slated for 4:30 p.m.
