Box Score 2 SCRANTON, Pa. – Junior Sarah Stepnowski (Monroe Twp., N.J./Monroe) tallied her 100th career hit in game one and The University of Scranton softball team (8-8) swept a doubleheader against the Marywood Pacers (10-6) on Tuesday evening at Magis Field in Scranton.
The Royals picked up an 8-0 run-rule victory in five innings in game one and used a walk-off RBI double from freshman Emmie Feltenberger (Pottstown, Pa./Owen J. Roberts) to notch a 7-6 victory in game two.
Scranton 8, Marywood 0 (F/5)
Scranton scored two runs in each of the first two innings and then added four runs in the fourth to notch the 8-0 win.
In the home half of the first, Stepnowski plated junior Jessica Stadler (Monmouth Junction, N.J./South Brunswick) with an RBI triple and then came around to score on an RBI single from sophomore Alyssa Mosconi (Oakland, N.J./Indian Hills) for an early 2-0 lead. Sophomore Kylie Rochford (Tinton Falls, N.J./Red Bank Catholic) added an RBI triple of her own in the second inning and later scored on Stadler's sac fly.
Freshman Carley Noble (Allentown, N.J./Allentown) got the start in the circle for the Royals and allowed just two hits while fanning three over five shutout innings to earn her second win of the season.
Mara Hamm was dealt the loss for the Pacers as she gave up eight runs on nine hits to go along with two walks and two strikeouts over 3 1/3 IP.
The Royals added four more runs off of Hamm in the afore-mentioned fourth inning as consecutive one-out singles put two runners on before Stadler scored both with an RBI single and Stepnowski then plated Stadler with her second triple of the day. Stepnowski's second triple of the day also marked her 100th career hit.
Rochford (2-2, 3B, RBI, SB, 2 R), Stadler (2-2, 3 RBI, 2 R) and Stepnowski (2-3, 2 3B, 2 RBI, 2 R) all registered multi-hit games for the Royals.
Scranton 7, Marywood 6
Feltenberger delivered the walk-off double with two outs into the left centerfield gap to score senior Lauren Cawley (Duryea, Pa./Scranton Prep) and help Scranton complete the sweep in the nightcap.
Cawley reached on an infield single with two outs in the inning, took second on a throwing error charged to Pacers 3B Sydney Steiner, advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on Feltenberger's double.
Marywood had tied the game at six apiece with three runs in the top of the seventh and Mikaela Badner came through with a two-run single that evened things. Later in the inning, the Pacers had the bases loaded with two away but sophomore Hannah Keane (Randolph, N.J./Randolph) got Jessica Plunkett to ground to short and end the threat.
Keane improved to 2-0 on the year as she got the three outs in the seventh in relief of fellow sophomore Emma Tirollo (Orange, Conn./Amity Regional). Tirollo allowed five runs on five hits while walking six and fanning three in six plus innings.
Plunkett allowed an unearned run on four hits in 2 2/3 IP and was dealt the loss for Marywood.
Scranton got on the board with four runs in the first inning when the first four batters of the inning reached and Feltenberger delivered the big blow in the inning with a two-run double. Stepnowski extended the lead with a solo blast to center in the third and Feltenberger hit her first career home run with a solo shot in the fourth to make it a 6-0 game for the time being.
The Pacers began to battle back with two runs in the fifth and one in the sixth which set the stage for the three-run seventh that tied the game.
Feltenberger matched her season-high with three hits and also drove in four runs, while Stepnowski added three hits of her own and Mosconi came through with two singles, a stolen base and a run scored.
The Royals are back in action on Saturday for a Landmark Conference doubleheader at Juniata with first pitch of game one set for 1 p.m.
