Box Score 2 HUNTINGDON, Pa. – The University of Scranton softball team (10-8, 3-1 Landmark) swept a doubleheader from the Juniata College Eagles (8-8, 2-2 Landmark) in Landmark Conference action on Sunday afternoon at West End Field in Huntingdon.
Scranton picked up victories of 9-4 and 6-2 on Sunday to notch the sweep.
The Royals have now won five straight overall.
Scranton 9, Juniata 4
A six-run third inning proved to be the difference in the game and the Royals never trailed again in the 9-4 win.
Trailing 3-0 at the time, senior Jenna Davida (Congers, N.Y./Clarkstown North) got the visitors on the board with a two-run triple and scored on junior Jessica Stadler's (Monmouth Junction, N.J./South Brunswick) RBI single that tied the game at three apiece. Two batters later, sophomore Alyssa Mosconi (Oakland, N.J./Indian Hills) gave Scranton the lead with a two-run double and freshman Emmie Feltenberger (Pottstown, Pa./Owen J. Roberts) plated Mosconi with an RBI double of her own for a 6-3 lead.
Freshman Carley Noble (Allentown, N.J./Allentown) got the win in the circle for the Royals to improve to 3-3 on the year as she gave up four runs on nine hits in a complete game effort.
The Royals tacked on three more runs in the sixth to break the game open when Davida came through with an RBI single and junior Sarah Stepnowski (Monroe Twp., N.J./Monroe) added an RBI single of her own to make it a 9-3 game for the time being.
Cate Baran was dealt the loss for Juniata after giving up the nine runs (eight earned) on 13 hits while fanning six in seven innings.
Stepnowski (3-4, 2 2B, RBI, R), Davida (2-4, 3B, 3 RBI, SB, 2 R), Stadler (2-4, RBI, R) and sophomore Kylie Rochford (Tinton Falls, N.J./Red Bank Catholic) who added two hits and two runs scored all registered multi-hit games for the Royals.
Scranton 6, Juniata 2
Head coach Caitlyn Seamster's team scored five in the second to take the lead and never looked back in the 6-2 victory.
In the five-run second inning, Davida plated a pair with a two-run double, while the trio of Stadler, senior Lauren Cawley (Duryea, Pa./Scranton Prep) and junior Alyssa Segnello (Flanders, N.J./Mount Olive) all delivered RBI singles.
Sophomore Emma Tirollo (Orange, Conn./Amity Regional) got the win for the Royals as she gave up two runs on just one hit to go along with four walks and a strikeout in four innings of work. Classmate Hannah Keane (Randolph, N.J./Randolph) earned the save as she allowed just one hit over three shutout frames.
Rochford reached with a one-out single in the fourth, stole second, took third on a single and scored on Stadler's sac fly. Juniata got a pair back in the home half to cut the Scranton lead to 6-2, but was unable to get any closer.
Maryn Swank took the loss for the Eagles after giving up six runs on 13 hits while fanning three in 7.0 IP.
Four different players tallied multi-hit games for the Royals in Cawley (3-4, RBI, R), Davida (2-4, 2B, 2 RBI, R), Feltenberger (2-4, 2B) and Rochford (2-3, SB, 2 R).
Scranton is back in action tomorrow afternoon with a non-conference doubleheader at Misericordia. First pitch of game one is slated for 3 p.m.
