Elizabethtown, PA -- The Elizabethtown College men's soccer team scored a goal in the 80th minute to defeat The University of Scranton men's soccer team 2-1 in the Landmark Conference opener on Saturday afternoon.
With the loss, the Royals move to 5-1-1 on the season.
Elizabethtown opened up the scoring on the day in the 16th minute when Pedro Vinent found the back of the net off an assist from Mehluko Letsoalo. Freshman
Luke Roberto (Howell, N.J. / Howell) found an answer for Scranton in the 31st minute as he scored off an assist from fellow freshman
Ronnie Prislupski (Moosic, Pa. / Holy Cross). The goal marked Roberto's second of the season.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Charlie Smith (Devon, Pa. / Conestoga) made a save late in the first half off a shot from Pedro Guizardi to keep he game level at 1-1 headed into the break.
The Royals came out firing to start the second half and forced a pair of saves from ETown's goalkeeper Kelvin Del Cid in the 61st minute. The Blue Jays then found the go-ahead goal in the 80th minute as Hudson Peck beat out Smith to give ETown a 2-1 advantage. Scranton was unable to find a late equalizer as Elizabethtown went on to win by a final score of 2-1.Â
Freshman
Matt Capretto (Hockessin, Del. / Charter School of Wilmington) led the Royals with a game-high three shots on the day including one on goal. Smith finished the game with three saves.
The men's soccer team returns to action on Tuesday for a home game against Keystone at 7:00 PM.
