ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. – Freshman Alex Iannone (Moscow, Pa./Scranton Prep) won a pair of events and The University of Scranton men's swimming & diving team notched a 162-100 victory over the Elizabethtown Blue Jays in dual meet action on Saturday afternoon at Alumni Pool in Elizabethtown.
With the victory, the Royals improve to 7-2 in dual meets on the year.
Iannone won the 100 back with a time of 57.62 seconds and the 200 back in 2:05.60.
Other winners on the day for Scranton included sophomore Jimmy O'Malley (Maple Glen, Pa./LaSalle College) in the 200 free (1:48.53), fellow sophomore Mike Finley (New Milford, N.J./Don Bosco Prep) in the 50 free (22.65) and junior James Cava (Chatham, N.J./Morris County School of Technology) in the 100 free (50.75). In the 100 free, Cava just edged out O'Malley who took second in 50.76 seconds.
Freshman Tommy Nappi (West Caldwell, N.J./James Caldwell) added a first-place finish of his own in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:20.60, while freshman Sam Peters (West Hartford, Conn./Northwest Catholic) won the 500 free in 5:00.60 and sophomore Matt Sherry (Glenside, Pa./LaSalle College) took the 200 IM in 2:05.77.
In the 400 free relay, the quartet of Finley, senior Scott Majka (Marysville, Pa./Trinity), Cava and O'Malley swam to a first-place finish in 3:22.96.
Majka finished second in both the 200 free with a time of 1:50.76 and the 100 fly in 54.52 seconds.
Scranton will host the United States Merchant Marine Academy in a dual meet on Sunday afternoon at the Byron Recreation Complex at 1 p.m.
