Sherry Helps Men's Swimming & Diving Topple Susquehanna on Senior Day, 213-64

SCRANTON, Pa. – Sophomore Matt Sherry (Glenside, Pa./La Salle College) notched a pair of first-place finishes and The University of Scranton men's swimming & diving team cruised to a 213-64 victory over the Susquehanna River Hawks in dual meet action on Saturday afternoon at the Byron Center in Scranton.

With the victory, the Royals now sit at 8-3 in dual meets on the season.

Sherry won the 50 free with a time of 22.39 seconds and also took first place in the 200 IM with a personal-best time of 2:03.33.

Other first-place finishers on the day for the Royals included freshman Chris Clarke (Elizabeth, N.J./Elizabeth) in the 1,000 free (10:38.45), sophomore Mike Finley (New Milford, N.J./Don Bosco Prep) in the 100 back (55.56), freshman Alex Crumpton (Cherry Hill, N.J./Camden Catholic) in the 100 breaststroke (1:03.36) and sophomore Nathan Micknick (Jermyn, Pa./Lakeland) in the 200 fly (2:06.26).

Freshman Alex Iannone (Moscow, Pa./Scranton Prep) won the 200 back for the Royals with a time of 2:04.50 and classmate Tommy Nappi (West Caldwell, N.J./James Caldwell) captured the 200 breaststroke in 2:19.82, while sophomore Jimmy O'Malley (Maple Glen, Pa./La Salle College) won the 500 free in 4:53.11 and junior Ryan Valle (Norristown, Pa./Methacton) took the 100 fly with a time of 55.50 seconds.

In the 200 medley relay, the quartet of Finley, senior Scott Majka (Marysville, Pa./Trinity), Sherry and Valle swam to a first-place finish with a time of 1:39.35. Scranton also notched a first-place finish in the 400 free relay as Majka, junior James Cava (Chatham, N.J./Morris County School of Technology), O'Malley and Finley cruised home in 3:21.98.

On the diving boards, freshman Tim Hause won the one-meter event with 181.65 points and senior Alex Drake (Flemington, N.J./Hunterdon Central) captured the three-meter event with 177.08 points.

The Royals will close out the dual meet portion of their season next Saturday at Drew with action slated to get underway at 1 p.m.
