SCRANTON, Pa. – The University of Scranton wrestling team dropped a 35-19 decision to the Centenary University Cyclones in a dual match on Monday night at the John Long Center in Scranton.
The Royals are now 3-5 in dual matches on the year.
Scranton got on the board in the 149-pound bout as sophomore Kosta Mavrikidis (Warren, N.J./Paramus Catholic) notched a 3-2 decision over Centenary's Aaron Briscoe. Senior Daniel Kosinski (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Trinity) then followed up Mavrikidis' victory by pinning Mark Venson in 2:27.
For Kosinski, the pin marked the 34th of his career which is two off the all-time record of 36 that was set by Will Laughlin a season ago.
Graduate students Jacob Burgette (Scranton, Pa./Scranton) and Jeremiah Oakes (Scranton, Pa./Scranton) both registered consecutive technical falls of 18-1 and 18-3 to give the Royals a 19-18 lead after the 174-pound bout.
Centenary regained the lead at 184 pounds and won the final three matches of the night.
The Royals are back in action on Friday night at Wilkes with the first bout slated to get underway at 7 p.m.
