Volleyball Splits Saturday Slate, Defeats Landmark Opponent Catholic

SCRANTON, PA -- The University of Scranton women's volleyball team defeated Landmark Conference opponent Catholic University 3-0 Saturday afternoon, but later fell to Springfield College 3-0 at the John Long Center.

Game 1 vs. Catholic

The Basics

  • Final Score: 3-0W (25-17, 25-17, 25-15)
  • Records: Scranton (10-9, 2-0 LC), Catholic (9-13, 2-2 LC)

How it Happened

  • The Royals defeated the Cardinals in three sets to record their second straight Landmark Conference win. Scranton finished the first set on an ace from freshman Kassidy Means to take a 1-0 lead. In the second set, the Royals scored five straight points to take a 19-14 advantage and ended the set 25-17. Senior Erin Keaveney delivered a game-ending kill in the third set to secure the sweep for the Royals. 

Top Performers

  • Means recorded a game-high 14 kills to pace the Royals.
  • Senior Katherine Denitz and classmate Keaveney added 11 kills each.
  • Senior Gianna Detorie led Scranton with 23 assists. 

Inside the Box Score

  • Scranton recorded 52 kills as opposed to Catholic's 20.
  • The Royals dished out 49 assists, 30 more than the Cardinals.

Game 2 Vs. Springfield

  • Final Score: 3-0L (26-24, 25-23, 25-15)
  • Records: Scranton (10-10), Springfield (13-4)

How it Happened

  • The Royals lost a hard-fought battle in three sets against Springfield College. The Pride won the first set 26-24, second 25-23, and third 25-15.

Top Performers

  • Means and Keaveney led the way offensively with seven kills each. 
  • Sophomore Cammi Quirk finished with 13 assists.
  • Junior Camryn Hoffman recorded 14 digs to lead the Royals.

Inside the Box Score

  • The Royals finished with four aces and four blocks. 
  • The Pride had their largest lead in the third set, 20-10. Before that point, the Royals never trailed by more than four.

The Royals will travel to Drew University on Tuesday night for a Landmark Conference match slated to begin at 7:00 PM.
