Colton Nets Late Game-Winner as Men's Soccer Defeats Drew, 1-0

MADISON, NJ -- Junior Tyler Colton scored the lone goal of the game in the 88th minute to lead The University of Scranton men's soccer team to a 1-0  win over Drew University in Landmark Conference action on Wednesday evening.

How it Happened
  • Senior Ciaran Corr recorded the first shot on goal for Scranton in the 23rd minute and forced a save out of Drew's goalkeeper David Hoyt. 
  • Drew out shot the Royals 4-2 in the opening half, but the game remained scoreless.
  • The Rangers had a couple of chances off a corner in the 60th minute, but hit the crossbar on the first effort and had the second shot cleared off the goal line by sophomore Drew Paxson.
  • In the 88th minute, junior Nick Suraci lofted a ball into the box that found the head of classmate Logan Campbell who redirected it into the middle where Colton got on the end of it and ripped a half volley with his left foot into the top left corner of the net to put Scranton up 1-0.

  • Colton scored his third goal of the year and second game-winner.
  • Campbell recorded his first assist of the season.
  • Junior goalkeeper Charlie Smith made two saves in the shutout win.

  • Drew held an 11-10 advantage in shots, but Scranton out shot the Rangers 8-7 in the second half.
