Volleyball Falls Short in Landmark Championship to No. 1 Juniata

HUNTINGDON, PA -- The University of Scranton women's volleyball team was defeated 3-0 in the Landmark Conference Championship by No. 1 Juniata College on Saturday night.

The Basics

  • Final Score: 3-0L (25-14, 25-15, 25-20)
  • Records: Scranton (17-13, 8-1 LC) No. 1 Juniata (28-0, 9-0 LC)

How it Happened

  • In the first set, the Royals knotted the score at 9-9, then took a 10-9 lead with a kill from senior Erin Keaveney
  • Scranton and Juniata traded points, but the Eagles went on a six-point campaign to end the first set 25-14.
  • Keaveney struck first in the second, and freshman Kassidy Means delivered a kill to give Scranton a 5-4 lead, but the Eagle's service proved costly to the Royals, who dropped the set 25-15. 
  • The Eagles got out to an early 7-3 lead in the third set, but the Royals rallied to tie things at 15 a piece. 
  • Juniata scored four straight to pull away from Scranton, 22-26. 
  • Despite a kill from freshman Danielle Kramer and ace from sophomore Cammi Quirk to get within three, the Royals dropped the final set 25-20.

Top Performers

  • Keaveney led the Royals with 11 kills and Means added six.
  • Kramer recorded two blocks and four kills.
  • Quirk and senior Gianna Detorie each finished with 12 assists.
  • Junior Camryn Hoffman recorded 11 digs.
