Balanced Attack Leads No. 3 Women's Hoops to 84-38 Victory over Juniata

The University of Scranton women's basketball defeated Juniata College 84-38 Saturday afternoon in Landmark Conference action at the John Long Center.

The Basics

  • Final Score: No. 3 Scranton 84, Juniata 38
  • Records: No. 3 Scranton (4-0, 2-0 LC), Juniata (2-2, 1-1 LC)

How it Happened

  • The Royals opened the game with an 8-0 run, ignited by a turnaround jumper from junior Kaci Kranson. 
  • The Eagles scored five unanswered, until Kranson drained a three-pointer to break their momentum and put the Royals ahead 11-5.
  • Sophomore Natalie Stoupakis made a steal on the inbound and later in the possession made a three from the left wing. 
  • Sophomore Katie Gorski fed classmate Elizabeth Bennett for a layup that have the Royals a 18-9 at the end of the quarter. 
  • Graduate student Kyra Quigley started the second quarter with a layup off an assist from Kranson. 
  • Kranson struck next with a three from the right corner off a skip pass from graduate student Maddie Hartnett.
  • With 4:15 left in the half, junior Kaeli Romanowski came up with a steal and found sophomore Meghan Lamanna who finished through contact and converted the and-1 to put the Royals ahead by 20. 
  • Gorski drained a three-pointer from left corner of a pass from Bennett in the paint to end the half, Royals up 41-15.
  • Quigley found Lamanna in the right corner for three to start the half, then on the next possession Hartnett hit from the left corner off a drive from Romanowski. 
  • With 5:18 left in the third, Kranson drove past three defenders on her way to the basket, increasing the lead to 51-18.
  • Gorski drained a three-pointer at the buzzer off a pass from junior Jenna Sloan to end the third, Royals ahead 69-30.
  • Bennett started the fourth with a floater, increasing the Royal's lead to 41 points.
  • Senior Ashlyn Bender drove to the hoop from the left wing for a layup, then classmate Morgan Brewer connected from three in the left corner, pushing the lead to 77-34.
  • With 26 seconds remaining, freshman Lizzie Halligan blocked an Eagle layup attempt, Bender grabbed the board, and then freshman Sabrina Kraker scored a layup to end the game, 84-38.

Top Performers

  • Gorski led the Royals with 13 points and four assists.
  • Kranson added 12 points, and Lamanna and Bennett each had 11.
  • Quigley grabbed seven rebounds, followed by Bender who had five. 
  • Hartnett recorded three steals. 

Inside the Box Score

  • Scranton's defense forced 24 turnovers.
  • The Royals out rebounded the Eagles 43-25
