Men's Basketball Wins Season Opener Against Medgar Evers, 91-47

SCRANTON, PA -- The University of Scranton men's basketball team opened the season Friday night with a convincing 91-47 victory over Medgar Evers College in the opening game of the Hilton Scranton Invitational. 

The Basics

How it Happened

  • The Royals jumped out to a 14-0 lead early in the first half, paced by junior guard Jon Spatola
  • Scranton ended the half with a three-pointer scored by senior guard Cameron Khoza, giving the Royals a 22-point lead heading into the locker room. 
  • The Royals kept the momentum going in the second half, as they scored 16 straight and took a 55-20 lead with 13 minutes remaining in the game. 
  • Freshman Max Lebisky scored a fast break layup and converted the and-one play to push the Royals lead to 63-29 with 7:59 remaining. 
  • Scranton would go on defeat Medgar Evers 91-47.

Top Performers

  • Spatola finished with 16 points on 7-12 shooting, and added a game-high seven steals to contribute to the Royals 31 points off of turnovers. 
  • Senior Will McLoughlin added 16 points, four rebounds and a block for Scranton.

  • The Royals went 57.4% from the floor, while the Cougars only shot 30.2%.
  • Scranton shot 40.7% from deep.
