Kranson & Romanowski Pace No. 4 Lady Royals in 59-37 Win Against DeSales

SCRANTON, PA -- The University of Scranton women's basketball team outscored DeSales University 15-4 in the fourth quarter to defeat the Bulldogs 59-37 Tuesday night at the John Long Center. 

The Basics

How it Happened

  • Junior Kaeli Romanowski found sophomore Meghan Lamanna in the left corner who connected from three-point range to give the Lady Royals a 7-2 edge three minutes into the game.
  • Graduate student Maddie Hartnett found junior Kaci Kranson on a baseline cut for a layup, then on the next possession hit Kranson in the right corner for a three-pointer, Lady Royals ahead 12-2. 
  • Quick ball movement created an open corner three-pointer for sophomore Elizabeth Bennett with 3:32 left in the first.
  • Romanowski came up with a steal and finished a contested layup on the fast break, increasing the Lady Royals lead to 17-9 with a minute left in the opening quarter. 
  • Lamanna blocked the Bulldogs' last shot attempt of the quarter to ensure a 17-11 Scranton lead at the end of the first quarter. 
  • Kranson opened the second quarter with a corner three-point bucket off a feed from graduate student Kyra Quigley.
  • Quigley then blocked a Bulldog shot attempt, Romanowski secured the ball, then found Hartnett down court who converted the fast break layup to put the Lady Royals ahead 24-16.
  • The Lady Royals took advantage of DeSales' zone coverage, utilizing the high-low connection as Kranson found Quigley in the short corner for an easy layup to put Scranton ahead 26-28.
  • Quigley kicked the ball out to Hartnett on the right wing who drained a three-pointer at the buzzer to send the Lady Royals to the locker room up 33-22. 
  • DeSales scored the first five points of the half, until Kranson worked around her defender to end the Lady Royals scoring drought with 6:43 left in the third. 
  • Junior Jenna Sloan drove baseline and finished with a floater to ignite a 9-0 run for the Lady Royals, which included a Harnett right wing three and a driving layup from Romanowski to end the third.
  • The Lady Royals struck first in the fourth quarter, as Quigley faked her defender and drove to the basket to extend Scranton's lead to 12.
  • Lamanna connected from three on the left wing, then Quigley found Romanowski in the left corner for the Lady Royals' eighth three-pointer of the night with five minutes remaining.
  • Romanowski scored eight straight points as the Lady Royals defeated the Bulldogs 59-37.

  • Romanowski recorded 16 points, five rebounds, three assists, and two steals.
  • Kranson also scored 16 points for Scranton.
  • Hartnett added eight points and four assists.
  • Quigley grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds.

  • The Royals out rebounded the Bulldogs 47-26.
  • Scranton went a perfect 6-6 from the free-throw line.
