ITHACA, N.Y. – Freshman Jocelyn Smith (Hellertown, Pa./Wilson Area) and sophomore Molly White (Scranton, Pa./Holy Cross) both broke their own program records to lead the efforts for The University of Scranton women's track & field team on Saturday at the Bomber Invitational that was hosted by Ithaca College.
Smith placed seventh in the 60 meter dash with a new personal-best and program record time of 8.05 seconds, just eclipsing the previous best of 8.07 that had been set at last week's Conference Challenge Cup. The Hellertown, Pa., native also finished tied for fifth in the 200 meters with a personal-best time of 26.81 seconds.
White took sixth in the 60 meter hurdles with a new program-record time of 9.64 seconds, surpassing her previous-best clip of 9.73 that had been done on two occasions.
The Royals' 4x400 relay team of sophomore Sam Sharrow (Collingdale, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara), junior Molly Ferullo (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield Ludlowe), sophomore Alicia Acosta (Northvale, N.J./Northern Valley-Old Tappan) and freshman Hayla Bryant (Dallas, Pa./Dallas) took fourth in a time of 1:53.95.
Sophomore Gretchen Haray (Haworth, N.J./Northern Valley Demarest) tied for fifth in the long jump with a mark of 1.47m as she cleared the height on her first attempt.
In the triple jump, senior Jessica Tsu (Valley Stream, N.Y./Valley Stream North) recorded an 11th place finish with a mark of 9.93m and junior Hailey Monaghan (Langhorne, Pa./Villa Joseph Marie) placed 12th at 9.92m. White added a 12th place finish of her own in the long jump at 4.49m.
The Royals are back in action on Saturday, Feb. 10 for the Big Apple Invitational in Staten Island, N.Y.
