Men's Lacrosse Falls To Elizabethtown In Landmark Clash, 14-5

ELIZABETHTOWN, PA -- The University of Scranton men's lacrosse team was defeated 14-5 in Landmark Conference action at Elizabethtown on Saturday afternoon. 

With the loss, the Royals fall to 7-7 on the season and 5-1 in conference play. 

The Blue Jays got off to strong start as they opened up the game with five consecutive goals to hold a 5-0 lead headed into the second period. 

Elizabethtown scored a pair of goals to begin the second quarter and take a 7-0 advantage. Scranton got on the board with eight minutes remaining in the second period as senior Alex Eglitis (Randolph, N.J. / Randolph) found the back of the net to make it 7-1. The Blue Jays scored in the final ten seconds of action in the first half to make it 8-1 headed into the break. 

ETown made it 10-1 with two early goals to start the second half. Senior Matthew McAree (Manhasset, N.Y. / Manhasset) scored the second goal of the game for the Royals at the 9:36 mark of the third period to cut the lead to 10-2. The Blue Jays added another goal to close out the third quarter with a nine goal advantage. 

The Blue Jays went on another scoring run to open up the final period of action and led 14-2 with just over eight minutes remaining in the game. Freshman Brendan Donohue (Pearl River, N.Y. / Pearl River) scored the first goal of his career at Scranton with 1:53 left in regulation. Sophomore Pat McCormack (Livingston, N.J. Livingston) scored less than a minute later to cut the lead to 14-4.  Freshman Tommy Tremarco (Bridgewater, N.J. / Bridgewater-Raritan) converted in the last 10 seconds of the game, but the Blue Jays would go on to win by a final score of 14-5. 

Junior Zachariah Palinkas (Emmaus, Pa. / Emmaus) led the way defensively for Scranton with six ground balls and four caused turnovers. Sophomore goalkeeper Declan Allen (Garden City, N.Y. / Millbrook) finished the game with 16 saves in net for the Royals. 

ETown outshot Scranton 52-39 in the contest and controlled the face off battle, 18-5. 

The men's lacrosse team returns to action on Wednesday night at Wilkes University at 7:00 PM.
