Men's Lacrosse Tops Moravian in Regular Season Finale; Secures No. 3 Seed in Landmark Tournament

SCRANTON, Pa. – The University of Scranton men's lacrosse team (10-7, 8-1 Landmark) finished the regular season with a 12-7 victory over the Moravian Greyhounds (9-8, 5-4 Landmark) on Saturday afternoon at Weiss Field in Scranton.

The Royals have earned the No. 3 seed in the Landmark Conference Tournament and will host No. 6 Drew in a quarterfinal on Tuesday afternoon with action slated to get underway at 4 p.m.

Scranton, Susquehanna and Elizabethtown all finished 8-1 in league play and tiebreakers put Scranton as the No. 3 seed.

Senior Alex Eglitis (Randolph, N.J./Randolph) got the Royals on the board and started a stretch of three goals in 2:07 which was capped off by a goal from fellow senior Seamus O'Callaghan (Bethpage, N.Y./Chaminade) that made it 3-0 at the time. Moravian then scored the next three goals and tied the game with 8:08 to play in the second period. Sophomore Pat McCormack (Livingston, N.J./Livingston) regained the lead for the Royals who eventually took a 6-3 lead into the locker room after goals from O'Callaghan and sophomore Quinn Carson (Ardmore, Pa./Haverford).

Eglitis opened the scoring just 1:08 into the third quarter and Scranton scored four straight to begin the period as sophomore Kyle Holmes (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) found the back of the net to make it a 10-3 game for the time being. The Greyhounds would continue to battle and trimmed the deficit to four on two occasions, but were unable to get any closer as goals from Holmes and Carson in the fourth quarter helped secure the victory for the Royals.

Five different players tallied multi-goal games for the Royals, as Eglitis led the way with a hat trick and Carson, Holmes, McCormack and O'Callaghan tallied two apiece. Senior Joe Boyle (Huntington, N.Y./St. Anthony's) added three assists in the victory.

Senior Andrew Lord (Havertown, Pa./Haverford) and graduate student Colin Pierce (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) collected five ground balls apiece, while freshman Connor Cole (South Huntington, N.Y./St. Anthony's) added two ground balls and three caused turnovers.

In goal for Scranton, sophomore Declan Allen (Garden City, N.Y./Millbrook) registered seven saves.
