Women's Lacrosse Rolls Past Moravian; Clinches No. 1 Seed in Landmark Tournament

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The University of Scranton women's lacrosse team (14-3, 8-1 Landmark) scored nine goals in the first quarter and rolled to a 21-7 victory over the Moravian Greyhounds (8-9, 5-4 Landmark) on Saturday afternoon at John Makuvek Field in Bethlehem.

With the victory, the Royals have secured the No. 1 seed in the upcoming Landmark Conference Tournament and will host the winner of No. 4 seed Drew/No. 5 seed Juniata in semifinal action on Thursday at Weiss Field with action set to begin at 4 p.m.

Scranton secured the No. 1 seed over Catholic by virtue of a victory over the Cardinals on Apr. 6.

Junior Grace Lane (Long Beach, N.Y./Sacred Heart Academy) and senior Erin Reich (Rockville Centre, N.Y./South Side) each scored two goals apiece for the Royals as part of the nine-goal first quarter and a goal from freshman Becca Paterson (Havertown, Pa./Haverford) made it a 9-3 game after one. Head coach Chrissy Trescavage's team scored four of the first five goals in the second quarter to put the game out of reach including additional goals from Lane and Reich to complete their respective hat tricks. Goals from sophomore Jessica McCabe (Pearl River, N.Y./Nanuet) and junior Molly McCarren (Suffern, N.Y./Suffern) extended the lead to 15-6 at the half.

Lane and McCarren both scored in the third quarter to extend the lead to 17-7 and the Royals then outscored Moravian by a 4-0 margin in the fourth to preserve the decisive victory.

Offensively for Scranton, Lane led the way with four goals and an assist, while Reich added four points of her own on three goals and an assist and McCarren posted a hat trick. Freshman Eileen Hewitt (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown East) and junior Catherine McGlynn (Medford, N.J./Shawnee) scored two goals apiece and Hewitt corralled a game-high six draw controls.

Junior Alex Dato (Oceanside, N.Y./Oceanside) collected four ground balls in the victory and Reich caused two turnovers.

In goal, junior Lauren Boldis (Merrick, N.Y./Sanford H. Calhoun) made three saves in 23:45 of action to record the victory for the Royals.
