ALLENTOWN, Pa. – Senior Shervin Mokhtari (Clarks Summit, Pa./Abington Heights) won the 400 meter hurdles and The University of Scranton men's track & field team posted several top-five finishes on Saturday at the Muhlenberg Outdoor Invitational in Allentown.
Mokhtari captured first place with a time of 58.18 seconds and also added a fifth-place finish in the 110 meter hurdles in 17.05 seconds.
Freshman William Dickson (Quakertown, Pa./Quakertown Community) continued the impressive start to his Royals career as he placed third in both the 100 and 200 meter dash. He took third in the 100 meters with a personal-best time of 11.32 seconds and broke a program record in the 200 with a time of 22.60 seconds.
Dickson's 200 time surpassed the previous program record of 22.79 that had been set by Andrew Charway on May 5, 2019.
Junior Christian Snee (Olyphant, Pa./Mid Valley) added a fifth-place finish in the 800 meters in a time of 1:57.85.
The Royals' 4x400 relay team of freshman Ryan Brady (Tomkins Cove, N.Y./North Rockland), Dickson, Snee and sophomore Christopher Dertinger (Staten Island, N.Y./Monsignor Farrell) took second as they clocked a time of 3:28.38.
In the field events, freshman Nicholas Franceschelli (Spring Brook Township, Pa./North Pocono) broke his own program record in the javelin as he finished second with a mark of 55.27m.
Fellow freshman Joseph McGovern (Westfield, N.J./Westfield) placed fifth in the discus with a personal-best mark of 40.10m.
Scranton is back in action next weekend for the Messiah Multi & Invitational that will get underway on Thursday, Apr. 11.
