BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The No. 3 seed University of Scranton women's tennis team (11-8) saw its season come to an end with a 5-1 setback against the No. 2 seed Moravian Greyhounds (15-4) in Landmark semifinal action on Thursday at Hoffman Courts in Bethlehem.
Moravian advances to Saturday's Landmark championship match at top-seeded Drew.
The Royals got an 8-1 victory at the first doubles flight from the duo of graduate student Lily Nowak (Freeland, Pa./Hazleton Area)/freshman Gisele Falzone (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./Scranton Prep), but the Greyhounds won the other two doubles matches by scores of 8-2 and 8-4 to take an early 2-1 lead.
In singles play, Moravian was able to secure the match with straight-set victories at No. 2, 4 and 5 singles. Nowak and senior Maddy Abood (Plainfield, N.J./Union Catholic) were battling in the third set of their respective singles matches when the match was completed.
Nowak closes her storied career as the program's all-time leader in singles and doubles wins.
