Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Corr's Late Winner Pushes Men's Soccer Past Muhlenberg, 1-0

SCRANTON, Pa. – Senior Ciaran Corr (Newtown Square, Pa./Marple Newtown) scored the game-winner in the 79th minute and The University of Scranton men's soccer team (1-1) notched a 1-0 victory over the Muhlenberg College Mules (0-1-1) on Sunday afternoon at Weiss Field in Scranton.

Corr was able to gather a loose ball in the box and slotted a low shot to the far post which gave the Royals a 1-0 lead.

Scranton then held Muhlenberg to just one shot over the final 10 plus minutes to preserve the shutout victory.

With the win, head coach Andy Loughnane earned his first win at the helm of the Royals.

This also marked the Royals' third straight victory in the series dating back to the 2022 season with all three matchups having been decided by one goal.

The two sides played to a stalemate for much of the first half with each goalie making one save and things remained scoreless at the break.

Scranton nearly got on the board in the 51st minute as a shot by Corr was turned away by Muhlenberg goalie Ben Mulford. Following Corr's afore-mentioned goal in the 79th minute, junior goalie Charlie Smith (Devon, Pa./Conestoga) denied a free kick opportunity from the Mules' Mark Metcalf in the 84th minute en route to the clean sheet.

Loughnane's team held a 7-5 edge in shots led by four from Corr, while Smith registered two saves for his first shutout of the young season.

The Royals will host New Paltz on Friday night at Weiss Field with action slated to get underway at 7:30 p.m.
