Strong Second Half Lifts Women's Soccer Past New Paltz, 2-0

NEW PALTZ, NY -- The University of Scranton women's soccer team scored a pair of goals in the second half to defeat New Paltz 2-0 in non-conference action on Wednesday afternoon.

The Basics

How it Happened
  • Scranton out shot New Paltz 7-4 in the opening half but neither side was able to get on the board.
  • In the 53rd minute, graduate student Mary Haggerty served a corner kick into the box that found the head of fellow graduate student Niamh Healy and into the back of the net to give the Royals a 1-0 lead.
  • Junior Linda Daly added to the tally in the 80th minute as she beat out the keeper with a low shot to the left side. 
Top Performers
  • Senior goalkeeper Nicole Olson made a season-high six saves and posted her fourth shutout of the year.
  • This marked Healy's third straight game with a goal and her fifth of the season. 
  • Daly notched her first goal of the year.
