Scranton Field Hockey Rolls Past Juniata, 7-0

Box Score SCRANTON, PA -- The University of Scranton field hockey team won its sixth consecutive Landmark Conference matchup with a decisive 7-0 victory over Juniata College on Saturday afternoon at Weiss Field.

The Basics 

  • Final Score: Scranton 7, Juniata 0
  • Records: Scranton (12-3, 6-0 Landmark), Juniata (2-14, 0-6 Landmark) 

How it Happened  

  • Scranton got the scoring started in the eighth minute of the game when junior Maggie Keys fired a shot toward the cage that was tipped in by senior Annie Shaw to put the Royals ahead, 1-0.
  • Just 1:49 later, freshman Gracie Buchholz took a shot that trickled in to make it 2-0 Scranton.
  • Sophomore Shana Goldsmith made it 3-0 Scranton 24 seconds into the second half with her eighth goal of the season.
  • Keys added on to the Royals lead in the seventh minute of the second quarter, taking the ball into the circle and burying a reverse to push Scranton's lead to four goals.
  • With 2:35 left to go in the first half, Keys connected with freshman Olivia Burdo who deflected the perfect pass into the cage to make it 5-0.
  • Scranton scored its sixth goal of the game just 4:18 into the third period when Goldsmith tipped in a pass from Keys to extend the lead to 6-0. For Keys, it was her 16th assist on the year, which set a new single-season program record.
  • The Royals added one more goal late in the fourth quarter, as sophomore Liz Ferrara assisted on a goal by sophomore Ava De Natale to make it 7-0 Scranton.
