Scranton Women's Volleyball Splits Senior Day Doubleheader

SCRANTON, Pa. – The University of Scranton women's volleyball team split a pair of matches on Senior Day at the John Long Center on Saturday, sweeping Elizabethtown College (25-15, 27-25, 25-17) in Landmark Conference play before falling to nationally-ranked No. 18 Virginia Wesleyan University (25-22, 27-25, 25-14) in the nightcap.

How It Happened

Match 1 – Scranton 3, Elizabethtown 0

  • The Royals started the day with a strong sweep over Elizabethtown, taking the first set 25-15, edging out a tight 27-25 second set, and closing the match with a 25-17 win to secure their sixth Landmark victory.
  • Deanna Whelpley led the Royals with 20 kills and added two blocks, while Cammi Quirk totaled 45 assists, nine digs, and an ace. Lauren Angelucci had 11 kills, Danielle Kramer added 10 kills and two blocks, and Camryn Hoffman led the defense with 22 digs.

Match 2 – No. 18 Virginia Wesleyan 3, Scranton 0

  • In the evening match, Scranton battled hard against nationally-ranked Virginia Wesleyan but fell in straight sets. The Royals stayed close in the first two frames, losing 25-22 and 27-25, before the Marlins closed out the third, 25-14.
  • Whelpley again paced Scranton with nine kills and two blocks, while Ava Seidenstein contributed seven kills and Kramer added six kills and three blocks. Quirk finished with 28 assists, 11 digs, and two aces, and Hoffman recorded 12 digs.
