No. 3 Women's Hoops Rolls Past Lycoming, 85-38

SCRANTON, PA -- The University of Scranton women's basketball team defeated Lycoming College 85-38 in Landmark Conference action on Wednesday night at the John Long Center.

The Basics
  • Final Score: No. 3 Scranton - 85, Lycoming - 38
  • Records: No. 3 Scranton (24-0, 17-0 Landmark), Lycoming (4-20, 3-14 Landmark)
  • With tonight's win, the Lady Royals have clinched the top seed in the Landmark Conference playoffs and will host a semifinal game on Thursday, Feb. 27 with the opponent and time yet to be determined. 
How it Happened
  • Scranton opened the game on a 10-0 run, including eight points from junior Kaci Kranson.
  • The Warriors cut the lead to five (12-7) with 3:28 remaining in the first period.
  • Sophomore Elizabeth Bennett and Katie Gorski combined for 11 points, including three three-pointers to close out the opening quarter and give the Lady Royals a 23-11 lead. 
  • Scranton scored the first eight points of the second period and went on to outscore Lycoming 18-8 to lead by 22 (41-19) at halftime. 
  • The Lady Royals held Lycoming scoreless for the first seven and a half minutes of the third period and scored 20 unanswered to take a 61-19 lead. During the run, Scranton recorded five steals. 
  • Scranton out scored the Warriors 29-6 in the third, led by Kranson with eight and graduate student Allie Lynch with seven. 
  • Freshman Marisa Francione and senior Morgan Brewer connected on back-to-back threes to start the fourth. 
  • The Lady Royals went on to win by a final score of 85-38. 
Top Performers
  • Kranson led all scorers with 18.
  • Bennett added 13 points off the bench.
  • Gorski scored nine on 4-6 from the field. 
Inside the Box Score
  • Scranton recorded 20 steals for just the fourth time this season.
  • The Lady Royals scored 34 points off of Lycoming turnovers. 
  • Scranton shot 75.0% from the field in the third quarter.
