SCRANTON, PA – The University of Scranton baseball team lost 5-3 in 12 innings against Wilkes University on Tuesday evening at Volpe Field in Scranton, Pa.

How it Happened
- Wilkes got on the board in the first inning with an unearned run against freshman Chris Correll. After a single and an error put runners the corners with no outs, Correll got Luke Spencer to hit into a double play, although the runner from third scored to put the Colonels ahead 1-0.
- With runners on first and third, a one out single drove in the second Wilkes' run of the game in the fifth inning. Graduate student Matt Roda came into the game in relief and stranded a runner on base to keep the Wilkes' lead at 2-0.
- Junior John Heitzman came up to the plate with runners on the corners and one out and bounced a chopper up the middle that brought home graduate student Matthew Querey, cutting the Colonels' lead in half at 2-1.
- The Colonels added an insurance run in the eighth inning, scoring their third run on a wild pitch.
- With the bases loaded and nobody out after three straight singles from freshman Joey Granko, Querey and senior Jake Elston in the bottom of the eighth inning, junior Aidan Casey grounded into a double play that brought home Granko. The next batter, Heitzman, ripped a single to right field to tie the game at 3-3.
- Wilkes got the first two batters on base in the top of the ninth, but junior Logan Mason came out of the bullpen and struck out three batters in a row to strand both runners.
- Querey led off the bottom of the 10th inning with a walk, and Elston reached on an infield single to put the winning run on second with nobody out, but Wilkes managed to escape the jam to send the game into the 11th tied 3-3.
- Wilkes scored a pair of runs to take the lead in the 12th inning. With two runners on base, a wild pitch allowed the runners to advance to second and third, and then another wild pitch scored the go-ahead run. Wilkes then scored another on an error to take a 5-3 advantage.
- Scranton went down in order in the bottom of the 12th inning as Wilkes earned a 5-3 win in 12 innings.

- Mason struck out five batters in three scoreless innings of relief.
- Elston tallied three hits and a walk.
- Correll struck out four batters and allowed just one earned run in 4 1/3 innings.
