SCRANTON, PA – The University of Scranton baseball team won the series finale against Catholic University, 8-4, Monday afternoon at Volpe Field in Scranton.

How it Happened
- Catholic scored a run in the first inning on a sacrifice-fly to take a 1-0 lead.
- In the top of the fourth inning, Catholic scored its second run of the game on another sacrifice fly to make it 2-0 Cardinals.
- With junior John Heitzman on second base and one out, graduate student Matthew Querey laced a single to left-center field to plate the first run of the game for Scranton and cut Catholic's lead to 2-1.
- The Cardinals scored a pair of runs on an RBI ground out and an RBI double to extend the lead to 4-1.
- A leadoff walk from junior Conor Campbell and a single from Heitzman set up runners on the corners with nobody out in the bottom of the sixth inning for the Royals. Scranton scored one run on a wild pitch that brought home Campbell and then another on a sacrifice fly from Querey to make it 4-3 Catholic.
- After senior Pat Coyne ripped a double to lead off the seventh inning and moved to third base on a sacrifice bunt from senior TJ Pleban, senior Jake Elston brought him home with a sacrifice fly to tie the game at 4-4.
- The Cardinals had two on with one out in the top of the eighth inning, but graduate student Matt Roda entered out of the bullpen and got the first batter he faced to ground into an inning-ending double play to keep the score tied at four apiece.
- Campbell singled to lead off the eighth inning and Querey followed suit two batters later as Scranton put runners on the corners with one out for sophomore Jake Lopez, who ripped a base hit to score the go-ahead run and give Scranton its first lead of the game at 5-4.
- With the bases loaded and one run home in the eighth inning, Coyne ripped a single that one-hopped off the left field wall to make it 6-4 Scranton. One batter later, an error by the Cardinals' shortstop allowed two more runs to score to extend the Royals' lead to 8-4.
- Junior Matt Scepkowski worked a 1-2-3 ninth inning to close out the 8-4 win for Scranton.
Top Performers
- Campbell went 3-4 and scored two runs. His single in the fourth inning was his 100th career hit.
- Querey had two hits, two RBI and one run scored.
- Coyne went 2-2 with one RBI and one run scored after pinch hitting in the seventh inning.
