SCRANTON, PA -- The University of Scranton baseball team used a nine-run seventh inning to pull away from New York University for a 15-7 victory on Friday night at Volpe Field.

How it Happened
- NYUÂ struck first in the top of the first inning on a two-run homer to left field, giving the Violets a 2-0 lead.
- Scranton answered right away in the bottom of the inning, tying the game 2-2 behind an RBI double from junior John Heitzman and a sacrifice fly by graduate student Matthew Querey.
- In the fifth, NYU briefly reclaimed the lead at 3-2 after a hit-by-pitch with the bases loaded forced in a run.
- The Royals responded in their half of the inning, as Heitzman delivered another two-run double and Querey followed with an RBI double to make it 5-3.
- Scranton added to the lead in the sixth when freshman Will Hunsinger scored on a double steal, extending the lead to 6-3.
- NYU closed the gap in the seventh, on another two-run homer to bring the score to 6-5.
- Scranton broke the game open in the bottom of the seventh with a nine-run outburst. The inning featured a two-RBI single by sophomore Jimmy Lundari, an RBI single from senior Jake Elston, and a grand slam by Heitzman to cap the rally, pushing the lead to 14-5. A ground out later in the inning brought in the Royals' final run.
- The Violets added two more runs late but Scranton held on for a 15-7 win.
